The Melbourne International Research Scholarships (MIRS) is awarded to international students wishing to undertake graduate research degree studies at the University of Melbourne.

Benefits provided by the MIRS include living allowance, relocation grant, thesis allowance, and paid sick, maternity and parenting leave.  Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) is also included.
Eligibility:
To be considered for the MIRS, you must:
•  be an international applicant (ie. a citizen of a country other than Australia or New Zealand, and not an Australian permanent resident);
•  have completed tertiary studies that are at least equivalent to a 4-year honours degree at an Australian university with a minimum result of first class honours;
•  have applied for admission to undertake a master or doctorate by research degree or be currently enrolled in a research degree at the University of Melbourne
•  have not already completed a research qualification at the same or higher level as the course for which a scholarship is sought.
Application instructions:
Students must complete an Application for Admission to Graduate Research Degree Candidature and Scholarship. The University assesses applications for scholarships on an ongoing basis.  As a general rule:
  • • applications submitted before 31 October (Round 1) will be finalised by 15 February of the following year, and
  • • applications submitted before 31 May (Round 2) will be finalised by 31 July.

Macquarie Vice-Chancellor’s International Scholarships

Brief description:
The Macquarie University Vice-Chancellor’s International Scholarship provides a partial tuition fee scholarship for outstanding students to study an undergraduate or postgraduate degree at Macquarie University North Ryde campus.

Eligibility:
Applicants must:
•  Be a citizen of a country other than Australia or New Zealand.
•  Have met the University’s academic and English requirements for the course to be considered for a scholarship (must hold a FULL OFFER of admission for North Ryde by the application deadline).
•  Have achieved a minimum GPA of 3.0 out of 4.0 for Postgraduate applications and minimum requirement of an ATAR equivalent of 90 out of 100 for Undergraduate applications.

The International University Scholarships are highly competitive awards that shall be offered to successful overseas applicants who have achieved at an excellent level in their final years of schooling before applying for tertiary studies for the first time.

Eligibility:
The Scholarship shall be available for an applicant who:
  • • is defined as an overseas student under the terms of the Education Services for Overseas Students Act 2000 (dependents of the staff of diplomatic or consular missions are also eligible);
  • • has not commenced any further education after completing their secondary studies, unless required by the University for the purposes of admission;
  • • is applying for admission into tertiary study for the first time, unless required by the University for the purposes of admission;
  • • has achieved at an excellent level in their final years of schooling, demonstrated by excellent results in their secondary studies qualification; and
  • • has applied, and  received an unconditional offer for admission to the Australian National University by the date advertised on the University website.
Only students receiving a score equivalent to an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) of 99.60 or above will be considered for this scholarship.
Application instructions:
Eligible applicants applying for admission directly to the University or through UAC will automatically be considered. Students will not need to submit a separate scholarship application form to be considered for the scholarship. In order to be considered for a scholarship, students will need to have received an unconditional letter of offer by 29 June 2015for Semester 2, 2015.
